In Lyla Foy‘s new official music video for ‘Feather Tongue’ (directed by Oscar Hudson), she is the eye of a soft summer storm. Her self-mixed and produced instrumentals slowly unfurl around her even-keeled voice. Both musically and visually Foy is a gentle-yet-keen observer. Shot in an abandoned chapel in south London, Foy herself is woven in and out of the storyline as the all-seeing narrator rather than the main event. The lives of oppressed small town dwellers are shown through multiple characters, but seen through Foy‘s eyes. Contrasting the hauntingly reflective song, each character reaches a furious climax that seems like their first full breath taken in years. Foy’s pure vocals hit intimately in the realm of bedroom pop, if her bedroom was the echoey and archaic chapel they filmed at. Lyrically, a slightly cryptic distance is balanced out by thoughtfully simple remarks. Lyla Foy will be touring soon in support of her album Mirrors the Sky.
